In the early hours of Saturday morning, November 2, 2019, Bedford’s Bromham Road railway bridge was demolished. The contractors were held up for six hours because of the storm force winds. The prefabricated replacement bridge built in Ireland, currently resides in the yard adjacent to the old Midland Railway steam shed in Ford End Road. The new structure will use some of the former bridge’s supporting foundations. Work continues this coming weekend for eight hours and the following weekend when the contractors have 54 hours of possession.
