To celebrate British Science Week, BedPop Science Lab is coming to venues across Bedford town centre on Saturday, March 7, 10am-5pm (free entry) ready to inspire the scientists, engineers and inventors of the future!

The Higgins Bedford will be hosting dozens of free hands-on STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) workshops, demonstrations, experiments, challenges and activities.

There will be exciting BSL friendly demonstrations, chemical curiosities, environmental engineering challenges with hybrid air vehicles, stomp rockets, exploding dry ice volcanoes and activities for young geologists. Other activities include building superstructures, becoming pond detectives to investigate invertebrates, looking at microbes under microscopes and creating paper planes, balloon helicopters and air powered model cars to fly.

The excitement continues at John Bunyan Museum and the Basement @ Bunyan. With opportunities to meet amazing animals up close and personal including hedgehogs, lizards and owls and to create stunning felt flowers by turning sheep’s wool into cloth using friction, there is something for everyone to enjoy.

A series of garden tours, revealing the hidden secrets of Castle Close and behind the walls of The Panacea Museum will be available throughout the day, perfect for budding botanists! Discover how to measure a Beech tree, and meet Yggdrasil, Bedford’s very own Tree of Knowledge.

Then at Bedford Central Library, explore the cosmic wonders of space with the Planetarium, take a tour of the Solar System, celebrate the Moon Landings, and join in space themed arts and crafts.

Keep an eye out for the BedPop Science Lab brochure for more details. You can also check The Higgins Bedford, John Bunyan Museum, Panacea Museum and Bedford Central Library websites and social media pages for more information.
