A 21-year-old man from Luton has been handed an extended sentence of 14 years for raping a 15-year-old girl.

Kye Dell, of Guildford Street, Luton was sentenced Wednesday, February 26, 2020, at Luton Crown Court after previously pleading guilty at an earlier hearing to a number of sexual offences.

Dell met the victim when he approached her and asked for her number. Over text conversation, Dell arranged to meet with her and offered her a place to stay when she had fallen out with her family.

During the time she spent in Dell’s flat, the victim recalled how he kept approaching her and making advances towards her, but when she refused, he raped her. This happened a number of times during her stay.

One of the incidents was witnessed by two other people who were in the flat at the time and accompanied the victim to the police station, where she reported what had happened.

Dell was subsequently arrested and charged with a number of offences including multiple rapes of the 15-year-old victim. He later pleaded guilty at Luton Crown Court to two counts of rape, two counts of sexual assault, two breaches of his sexual harm prevention order and one count of possession of an indecent image of a child.

He will now spend the next nine years in prison, with an extension period of five years on licence. He is also the subject of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order upon his release and will be on the Sex Offenders Register for life.

Detective Inspector Craig Laws, from the force’s Emerald Team, said: “I am pleased that the court handed Dell a significant sentence. He took advantage of this young girl and offered a place to stay before forcibly having sex with her a number of times.

“I want to reiterate that no means no and if someone does not consent to sex, it is rape. Furthermore, this vulnerable victim was under the age of consent and, as an adult, Dell knew he was doing wrong.”
