A 53-year-old man from Leighton Buzzard has been jailed for four-and-a-half years for sexually assaulting a young girl five years ago.

Primo Boeretto, of Hartwell Drive, Leighton Buzzard, was sentenced at Luton Crown Court last Monday, March 23, 2020, after being found guilty by a unanimous jury of two counts of sexual assault by touching and one count of engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child.

He will serve a prison sentence of four-and-a-half years, with an additional three years to run concurrently.

He targeted the girl when she was just nine years old, indecently assaulting her on a number of occasions.

Three years later in 2018, she found the courage to disclose to her best friend what had happened to her and staff at her school were alerted. The victim’s mother was informed and she called the police which led to Boeretto’s arrest.

PC Benjamin Robertson from Bedfordshire Police’s Child and Vulnerable Adult Abuse Unit, who investigated said: “I would like to commend the victim’s strength, bravery, courage and determination to disclose these abhorrent crime to us.

“It wasn’t an easy process for her to go through and I am glad Boeretto has been sent to prison for what he did to her. He abused her and preyed on her young age for his own sexual gratification and will now have time to reflect on his actions.

“Child sexual abuse is the most horrendous trauma for a child to experience – it not only ruins their childhood, but stays with them throughout adulthood. We will not tolerate this type of crime in our county and will do all we can to support victims and put these perpetrators behind bars.

“I would like to encourage anyone who had been abused, no matter how long ago it happened, to come forward and tell us and we will do everything we can to get justice for you.”
