Inevitably the Coronavirus pandemic has had a major impact upon Sandy Twinning Association’s activities for 2020.
The Malaunay visit scheduled for May has already been cancelled and the July summer schools in Skarszewy and Pelplin are very much in doubt and will only go ahead if social distancing riles are relaxed considerably and travel restrictions are eased.
The Association is still hoping that its own social activities for late September and November will go ahead but there are inevitably concerns about the long-term impact of the crisis upon the future of international links, especially as there are certain to be marked changes in the future, and especially in the next few years, as to how people view travel abroad and their own holiday plans.

Next door Beeston
One of the positive aspects of the current lockdown has been the way that communities have come together to offer support to the disadvantaged and vulnerable residents, whether it be offers of shopping, or just social media interaction and support.
Beeston itself has wonderful opportunities for walkers, joggers and cyclists to enjoy a taste of the countryside with its Green and myriad of footpaths leading out to open countryside. To date social distancing has been wholly respected.
Residents overall have been wonderfully supportive and kind, ‘though we can do without the odd invective exchanges over such matters as bonfires. It is to be hoped that once the present crisis is over some of the current goodwill can be galvanised into long-term action in support of communities everywhere.
