Bedford Borough Council’s Community Hub has today delivered the 2000th food parcel to someone in need.

The Community Hub has been up and running for over a month, delivering food, prescriptions and support to people are most in need; those who are self-isolating in Bedford Borough who have no local support network.

In that time, the Hub has responded to lots of requests for support which include, along with 2,000 food parcels, nearly 500 prescriptions deliveries, delivery of around 300 hygiene packs and dozens of calls made to our residents who may be feeling lonely at this difficult time.

Council staff and volunteers at our Hub have been working to deliver this much-needed help.

Mayor Dave Hodgson said “The Community Hub was set up quickly at the start of this lockdown, so we could start delivering support to those people who need it most.

“We have had so many messages of thanks and appreciation, and I would like to add my voice to those thank you to every single person working to support the vulnerable and elderly right across Bedford Borough.

“If you are in need of support, please contact the Hub at www.bedford.gov.uk/covid19 or call us on 01234 718101.

“If you would like to join our incredible volunteer force, you can also do so at www.bedford.gov.uk/covid19.”
