Herrings Green Activity Farm and Bird of Prey Centre in Wilstead are appealing for urgent donations to feed their birds and animals and to keep the centre running. They are home to more than 200 birds and animals from around the world – including plenty of new additions as they’re in the midst of a baby boom! It costs £800-£1,000 a day to feed and care for the animals – they’re facing an uphill struggle.
They normally offer fun days out where visitors can learn to handle and fly birds of prey, meet and walk farm animals and have a go at a variety of activities. It’s a family-run farm and rely on visitor admission and pre-bookable activities to keep the centre running, business has halted since lockdown began.
Since it’s unclear when they can re-open they’re facing an increasingly uncertain future. New government guidelines state that zoos and farms must remain closed, they’re asking where is the support?
Emma Gooden, Centre Manager says: “We’re a hub for locals and attract visitors from the local area and beyond. We want to continue to entertain and engage the public, but we need their help.
