Aekta Patel, audiology director at the Specsavers stores in Bedford and Luton, made her national TV debut last weekend (June 14) alongside colleagues and customers in a new campaign for Specsavers.
Specsavers stores across the UK have been open for urgent and essential care throughout lockdown, and Aekta is one of many key workers across the stores who have been making sure that people’s eye and – in her case – hearing needs have been met at this challenging time.
Aekta has been busy with essential care telephone calls and door drops of hearing aids and hearing aid batteries to local customers – including national hero Sir Tom Moore (formerly Captain Tom) – and offering remote support and advice to patients who have been unable to visit one of the stores while audiology services were suspended.
The 90-second TV advertisement, titled We Were There, tells the real-life stories of store colleague and customer experiences with Specsavers during lockdown when its doors were closed to all but emergency cases.
Aekta said: “None of us have ever experienced a period like this in our working or personal lives before, and we’re all really pleased to have been able to keep supporting our local communities through this crisis.
“All of us have felt more isolated, but for our patients who are living with hearing loss this has been even more acute. We’ve been able to make sure they have the supplies they need to keep their hearing as good as it can possibly be, allowing them to interact with their families – and even just keep up with their favourite TV show.
“Our audiologists are now available for urgent and essential care in store, including ear wax removal, which is something we’ve seen a massive rise in since we re-opened. As we move towards the next phase, we look forward to catching up with more of our customers and keeping them safe in store.”
The Specsavers We Were There advert debuted on ITV1 on Saturday, June 13 and can be viewed across Specsavers social pages and online here: (https://youtu.be/JDvR7c60F2k).
