A teenager who sexually abused a six-year-old girl in Luton was given a Youth Rehabilitation Order on Friday, July 3.

The youth from Luton, who cannot be named, assaulted the girl on two occasions on December 2, 2018, when he was aged 16.

Luton crown court heard he had initially denied two charges of sexual assault on a child under 13, but changed his plea before his trial.

Minal Raj, defending, said: “He was very young at the time of the offences and is deeply remorseful.” She said he had no previous convictions.

Judge Barbara Mensah told him: “It is a shocking offence. It is quite clear it has had a devastating impact on the victim and her parents.”

She said if he had been an adult she would have had a sentence of five or six years as a starting point.

The judge made an 18-month Youth Rehabilitation Order with 18 months’ supervision by probation with 12 months’ of a rehabilitation activity requirement and a four month electronically monitored curfew between 9pm and 6am.

In addition, the youth was made the subject of a seven year Sexual Harm Prevention Order which include conditions banning him from contacting the victim and approaching anyone aged under 13.
