Court case adjourned after prison officer is attacked

A court case was adjourned on Friday, August 14, after a prison officer was attacked at Bedford jail.

Defendants were supposed to appear on a video link to St Albans crown court for sentence for a conspiracy to commit burglaries in Hertfordshire.

The case was put off until Tuesday, August 18, after the prison informed the court of the attack, which meant the three defendants could not leave their wing to attend the video booth.

There would have been problems in any event because Spanish interpreters had not been booked by the court.

Those due to be sentenced are:

• Alexis Castro, aged 37, from London.
• Christian Rubio, aged 38, of no fixed abode.
• Carlos Aranis, aged 30, of no fixed abode.
• Mario Fernandez-Garrido, aged 33, of no fixed abode.
• Sergio Saravia, aged 38, of no fixed abode.
