A man who forced his way into a flat in Luton and then beat the occupant about head has with a cosh or baseball bat been jailed for eight years.
Nick Cannon had earlier been drinking with the victim and others at another address in the town. Luton crown court heard in the small hours of the morning Cannon and another man went to the victim’s address Windmill Road, Luton and attacked him.
In court on Friday, August 14, 2020, Cannon, 31, of Bowbrook Vale Luton pleaded guilty to wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, aggravated burglary and having an offensive weapon.
Judge Steven Evans hearing the case was told the other man recruited by Cannon to go with him to the victim’s home has still not been traced It was on February 15 this year that Cannon, the victim and others were all at an address in Luton drinking.
Late that night the victim left after Cannon had fallen asleep. But when he came too and discovered the man had left Cannon became angry and decided to go to his flat. He took with him another man and they were armed with a baseball bat and a cosh. After getting into the building the pair went to the first floor flat of the man and hammered on the door.
When he opened the door he found himself under attack by Cannon and his accomplice who were wielded the cosh and baseball bat to strike him a number of times about the head and arms He suffered cults to his head and a broken nose as a result.
The court heard the victim required hospital treatment and staples were applied to the head wounds. Judge Evans was told the attack that night left him shocked and since then he has suffered flash backs and night terrors.
As a result of what happened he has had to move out of his home. Miss Minal Raj defending said Cannon had been held in prison on remand since the attack and had lost his job as a production operator at Vauxhall.
In a letter to the judge which was read out in Cannon said he wanted to offer his sincere apologies to his victim and what had happened had been out of character.
“I wish I could turn back time,” he said. Judge Evans jailed Cannon for eight years and told him he was fortunate his victim hadn’t suffered more serious injuries.
“Frankly, this is a case in which you might have killed him,” said the Judge.
