Drunk drug dealer demolished friends car

A Dunstable man who had been ‘out on a bender’ drove off in a friend’s car when she pulled up at a petrol station.

Rupert Pratt, 22, got into the seat of the car when the woman went to pay at the BP garage on Luton Road, Dunstable.

He drove for less than a mile before crashing it at the junction of Dunstable High Street and Church Street, Luton crown court heard on Tuesday, August 25, 2020.

Prosecutor Adam Norris said Pratt said he had been “out on a bender“ with a friend on August 3, last year and had asked the woman to pick them up.

When she went inside at the petrol station Pratt drove off. The police were called and officers saw him getting out of the crashed car. He was bleeding and was taken to hospital in a neck brace.

He had an ounce of cannabis in a rucksack. At his home more cannabis was found.

The total value of the skunk was £1,125. Mr Norris said text message indicated Pratt was a ‘middle-man’ in supplying cannabis.

Pratt of Jeans Way, Dunstable pleaded guilty to aggravated vehicle taking and possessing cannabis with intent to supply. Judge Steven Evans sentenced him to a three year Community Order.

He must carry out 200 hours’ unpaid work, attend 25 days of a rehabilitation activity requirement and 19 sessions on a thinking skills programme.

He was fined £100 for breaching a suspended sentence order.
