Beer production is now officially underway at Wells’ Brewpoint

Following the recent news that construction of Wells & Co.’s new Bedford home, Brewpoint, has completed, the team are pleased to announce that beer production on site is now officially underway.

Peter Wells, Group Managing Director for Wells & Co., hammered home the first shive into a firkin of cask beer on Tuesday, September 29, 2020.

Representing a symbolic moment for the company, Peter commented: “It’s truly exciting to have beer production underway in our new home, Brewpoint.

“This moment has been three years in the making since the sale of our old brewery in 2017, so it brings me great pleasure to guide Wells & Co. back into brewing, and in such an impressive setup.

“We’re exceptionally excited about our state-of-the-art Braukon brewing equipment we’ve invested in for Brewpoint, which will ensure that the beer we produce is of the best possible quality.

“Our packaging flexibility is also unparalleled, and the range of innovative brews we have planned will give consumers ongoing reasons to visit both our new home and our pub estate during an otherwise testing time for the industry.”

Despite the challenges imposed by Covid-19 in recent months, the Brewpoint build team delivered the state-of-the-art brewing facility remarkably close to the project’s original timeline, enabling the ‘brew crew’ to go to work crafting the inaugural range of beers to celebrate its launch.

Leading the charge will be On Point Pale Ale, a progressive 4.0% ABV keg and canned beer that offers bright tropical and citrus flavours on a light malt base, and Origin Pale Ale, a classic 3.7% ABV cask offering that balances malt sweetness with crisp bitterness, tropical fruit and citrus late hop notes.

The Brewpoint range has benefitted from consumer feedback provided as part of the Wandering Brewer Project, Wells & Co.’s innovative two-year collaborative guest beer programme to keep their name in the brewing game whilst Brewpoint was under construction.

Peter adds: “Feedback gathered from those drinking these beers in our pubs has helped us to ensure that Brewpoint’s launch lineup is a selection that we know people will be excited to enjoy in the weeks and months to come.

“From the early brews I’ve been lucky enough to sample a few, and I am pleased to say our loyal customers in the UK, France and Italy are in for a treat.”

From October 8, Wells & Co. will be opening the external garden area at its site in Fairhill for 11 weeks and inviting everyone down to experience A Taste Of Brewpoint.

The pop-up bar will do exactly what it says on the tin; visitors be able to get a real flavour for Brewpoint via the ground-breaking beers, delicious food, retail opportunities and entertainment on offer.
