HM Lord-Lieutenant of Bedfordshire, Helen Nellis, was delighted to make a socially distant covid safe visit to the Road Victims Trust in Kempston to thank the volunteers and staff for their tremendous efforts during the pandemic.

On the visit, the Lord-Lieutenant met with Chair of Trustees Lyn Hesse, Chief Executive Mark Turner and Clinical Service Lead Sarah Jones. The Lord-Lieutenant was interested to hear how they have continued to support families who have been bereaved by road deaths during this very difficult period.

At a time when fundraising has never been more important, the Road Victims Trust have put in extra effort to raise vital funds to keep the service going.

Winners of the prestigious Queens Award for Voluntary Service, the Road Victims Trust supports anyone who lives in Bedfordshire (and Cambs & Herts) who is affected by a fatal or life-changing serious injury collision.

Using highly trained Counselling Volunteers, the Road Victims Trust guide individuals through the legal procedures whilst also offering emotional support and practical advice to those affected, along with their families.

Chief Executive Mark Turner said: “The consequences of a road death are truly devastating and so many lives are changed forever. We are proud to be able to offer our services across Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire.

“This has been made possible by a genuine partnership approach and we are hugely grateful for the friendship and support of HM Lord-Lieutenant who has done much to promote our cause”.

HM Lord-Lieutenant Helen Nellis said: “It was a pleasure to visit our friends at the Road Victims Trust to pay tribute to their work and to get an update on their activities. I am always so inspired when I speak with the volunteers and staff who offer a true lifeline to people during what may be one of the darkest times in their lives.

“My sincere thanks to all at the Road Victims Trust for their commitment, care and dedication.”
