Bedford Borough Council and the Bedford Branch of the Royal British Legion are reminding everyone in Bedford Borough to safely mark Remembrance Day by remembering from home those who lost their lives and those affected by war and conflict around the world.
Normally Bedford Embankment would be filled by people attending the annual Remembrance Day service at the War Memorial. However to reduce the spread of COVID-19, particularly amongst the elderly and vulnerable and with the introduction of new national restrictions, this year the public have been asked not to attend and instead the reduced COVID-secure service will be available live online through the Bedford Independent and Bedford Hospital Radio.
Robin Thomas from the Bedford Branch of the Royal British Legion said: “With rates of COVID-19 infection rising this year’s events will be very different. Sadly we are asking the public not to attend this year’s Remembrance Service to avoid the risk of spreading the virus and to keep everyone safe.
“We’re pleased to be working with Bedford Hospital Radio who will again be broadcasting the service live, so that it will be easy to support Remembrance Sunday in Bedford from home.”
Tune into to hear the service through Bedford Hospital Radio by visiting their webpage www.hospitalradiobedford.org.uk/
The Remembrance Service will be broadcast live on Remembrance Sunday, November 8, from 10:50.
Until Wednesday you can pick up a poppy at the poppy shop in Market hall, The Arcade, Bedford or from the Harpur Centre in front of the Captain Sir Tom Moore tribute. Poppies will continue to be available from Tesco on Cardington Road and Morrisons on Ampthill Road and donations can be made online at www.britishlegion.org.uk/get-involved/poppy-appeal
