Police were today, Monday, November 9, 2020, searching for a murder weapon after a teenage boy was fatally wounded in the street. The 17-year-old, named locally as Lewis Roberts, was involved in a fight with another youth on Tyburn Avenue on the Springfield Estate in Milton Keynes on Saturday night. He was found with chest wounds 100 metres away in Kenwood Gate and taken to hospital, where he died from his injuries. Thames Valley Police said his next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers. Two police tents were erected – one in Tyburn Avenue and the other in Kenwood Gate. Flowers were placed by officers next to the tent in Tyburn Avenue. Lewis' older sister Lauren Wenham wrote on Facebook: "I can't believe I'm having to write this. Words cannot explain how devastated I am. "You weren't meant to go yet. You had your whole life in front of you and you were so ready for it. "Your (sic) a son, brother, a grandson, a nephew, a cousin and an uncle and we will all forever love and miss you. "How are we meant to carry on without you? "I'm expecting you to come strolling through the door with your cheeky grin. "But for now sleep tight baby bro." On Lewis' Facebook page, he wrote that he attended Milton Keynes Academy and was working at JD Sports. Friends have left scores of messages, including: "Rest in peace mate, what a cruel world" and "RIP Lewis. I'll miss you always." His girlfriend said "I love you so much Lewis." Streets in the area were cordoned off as forensic officers examined the scene of the attacked that happened at twenty to seven. Detectives carried out house to house inquiries while uniformed officer carried out “reassurance patrols.” The police were also asking shops, the community centre and residents for any CCTV they had. Drains and bushes were being searched for weapons. One worker said: “I heard he was going to be 18 today. It is a terrible waste.” A boy, aged 16, is in police custody having been arrested on suspicion of murder. Another resident said: “It is a bit of a rabbit warren around here with roads crossing each other. “We did not hear anything until the ambulance arrived. It looks as if the boy who died was attacked in Tyburn Avenue and made his way down to Kenwood Gate, where he was found. “We are assuming he was stabbed.” Another resident said: “It happened nearby but nobody heard anything until the ambulance arrived. Now they have cordoned off the whole area.” Chief Inspector Kelly Gardner said: “First and foremost, our thoughts are with the family and friends of the boy who has lost his life. “There will be an increased police presence in the area while enquiries are carried out as part of a thorough investigation. This will include our neighbourhood police officers, who will be in the area all week. “If you have any concerns, feel free to approach and talk to these officers.” Senior Investigating Officer, Detective Chief Inspector Stuart Blaik, of the Major Crime Unit, said: “We are currently working to establish the circumstances of this incident in which a boy has tragically died. “I would encourage anyone who has information about what may have happened to please come forward as well as those who may have been in this area between 6.25pm and 6.50pm. “I would appeal for drivers to check dash-cam footage in case it may have captured something that could assist with our investigation. “Also if you have CCTV in the local area, I would asked you to please check this and if there is anything which could relate to this case to get in touch and share this with us. “You can contact police by calling the non-emergency number 101 or make a report online quoting the reference number 43200364814. “Alternatively, if you wish to remain anonymous, you can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
