The case of a distraction burglar from Houghton Regis was adjourned on Thursday, February 4, 2021, at Luton Crown Court because he has caught Covid in Wormwood Scrubs prison in west London.
Martin Wickens, 28, of Shelduck Field was due to be sentenced for three burglaries in Dunstable between November 11 and 13, 2020.
His barrister Kevin Molloy told Judge Lynn Tayton QC: “The defendant has not been produced because of Covid.
“I find it really disappointing we were not informed.
“There is no way that over breakfast they found he had Covid.
“There is a lack of courtesy. If they knew this yesterday there must be an obligation to inform the court.”
Judge Tayton said: “I take your point and I will take it up with the prison.”
She adjourned sentence until February 26.
