Two men have been locked up for four years after attacking a man as he left a nightclub in Bedford.Daniel Butler, 20, of Ryswick Road, Kempston, and Tyler Knight, 22, of no fixed abode, both admitted to attacking a man in Mill Street after they were involved in an altercation at a local venue.
On 28 July 2019, Butler and Knight were ejected from a nightclub by the door staff, and they both waited outside for the victim.
When the victim left the premises Butler and Knight launched their attack, in which Butler hit the victim with an empty bottle he found in a nearby bin.
The door staff stepped in to break up the altercation as they were waiting for officers to arrive. The two men were sentenced on Wednesday, February 10, 2021, at Luton Crown Court.
Butler pleaded guilty to attempted Grievous Bodily Harm (GBH) and Knight pleaded guilty to assault causing Actual Bodily Harm (ABH).
Butler received a three year sentence, to be served in a Young Offenders Institution. Knight was handed a one year prison sentence. Both offenders were also ordered to pay a £330 victim surcharge.
Detective Constable Jay Watts, who investigated for Bedfordshire Police, said: “Butler and Knight admitted the attack, and were seen waiting for the victim in a nearby street. They showed no remorse for their actions.
“Thankfully the club door staff were alerted to the attack and managed to stop it before it had more serious consequences.
“The victim sustained only minor injuries, but we cannot imagine the emotional toll this event has caused.
“Although pubs and clubs remain closed currently due to national lockdown, let this be a reminder to everyone to take responsibility for your actions; to drink in moderation and to think twice about the impact of your behaviour.
“A decision made in a split second can change not just someone else’s life, but both yours and your family’s.
