A man from Luton who was caught in Hemel Hempstead with Class A drugs hidden behind the centre console of the car he was driving has been jailed for two years and eight months on Thursday, April 29, 2021.
Luton Crown Court was told Muazzam Naheem had 54 wraps of crack cocaine and 35 heroin which in total, was worth more than a thousand pounds.
He appeared in court to plead guilty to two offences of possessing Class A drugs with intent to supply.
Daniel Siong prosecuting told the court how on March 18, 2020, two police officers in a marked police car pulled up the defendant who was driving a Honda Civic car along Leighton Buzzard Road in Hemel Hempstead.
As well as finding the wraps of drugs, officers found £790 in cash and an examination of his mobile phone indicated he was involved street dealing.
Although not the subject of any charge also found in the boot of the car was an extendable baton.
The court was told Naheem of Hazelbury Crescent in Luton had struggled in the past with alcohol and drug addiction.
Judge Lynn Tayton QC told him: “Class A street dealing clearly is always going to be regarded as a serious offence by this court.”
Judge Tayton said his offending that day was aggravated by the fact he had a baton in the car.
She sentenced him to two years and eight months and told him he would have to serve half the term in custody before he could be released on licence.
