Two teenage boys have been arrested in connection with a number of attempted knifepoint robberies that were reported to have happened in various areas of Luton on Tuesday, May 4.

Between 4pm and 7pm, police received three separate reports of two boys approaching people in and around Whipperley Ring, Long Croft Road and Hatters Way, threatening them with what was believed to be a knife, and demanding their mobile phones.

Two teenage boys from Luton aged 14 and 15 were identified and arrested on suspicion of attempted robbery.

The 14-year-old boy is currently in police custody for questioning and the 15-year-old boy has been released on bail.

PC Jim McKeane, from Bedfordshire Police’s Crime Investigation Team, said: “We understand these incidents will be concerning to the local community, so I hope that these arrests, along with increased patrols in the area, have provided some reassurance.

“We are doing all we can to establish the facts of each of these attempted robberies, and are asking anyone who may have seen anything, or motorists who were driving along any of these roads between the stated times and who may have dash cam footage, to please come forward.”
