A burglar has been sentenced to three years imprisonment after targeting an address in Luton.
Rhys Moriarty, 28, of no fixed abode, pleaded guilty to one count of burglary, two counts of attempted burglary, and theft of a motor vehicle at Luton Crown Court on Thursday, May 27, and was subsequently sentenced to three years in prison.
In the early hours of February 4, 2021, Moriarty targeted addresses in the Bushmead Road, Robinswood and Telescombe Way areas of Luton.
He successfully gained access to a property in Bushmead Road where two sets of car keys and one vehicle was stolen and the other interfered with. Other items such mobile phones were also stolen.
He was captured on CCTV for all three offences, and identified by Bedfordshire Police officers who are part of the Operation Maze team responsible for the investigation of burglaries in the county.
Detective Constable Jason Wheeler, from Operation Maze, who led the investigation, said: “Moriarty is a burglar who targets addresses in the early hours when the victims are asleep. I am glad that I was able to identify him from his previous offences. The CCTV at the three properties made the evidence against him overwhelming, forcing him to plead guilty.
“I really hope that this sentence will give him an opportunity to reflect on his actions and get the support needed to help him turn his life around. We will continue to work hard to bring offenders to justice”
