A Luton drug dealer sped off from the police at 90 miles per hour before losing control and crashing.
Mohammed Rahman, now 23, went through red lights, manoeuvred in front of oncoming traffic with the police barely able to keep up.
He hit a kerb at The Moakes in the town, got out and ran off, but was caught an hour later, Luton Crown Court heard on Wednesday, June 23, 2021.
Prosecutor Richard Witcombe said that early in the morning on September 16, 2019 the police were alerted to the Mercedes he as driving in the town centre by an Automatic Number Plate Recognition camera.
Rahman would not stop and accelerated northwards through the town before crashing. The police recovered drugs from the glove compartment in the car.
They found cocaine with a street value of £300 as well as some cannabis. Digital scales with traces of cocaine and a cannabis grinder were also recovered.
Two weeks’ worth of text messages showed he was being directed where to deal the cocaine, said Mr Witcombe. Rahman of Spencer Road, Luton appeared for sentence having pleaded guilty to possessing cocaine with intent to supply, dangerous driving and possession of cannabis.
He told the police that he had been dealing to pay off a drug debt.
Defending Nazmeen Imambaccus said he was of previous good character and had pleaded guilty.
She said he had been “liaising with the wrong crowd” and had started to use drugs to deal with mental health problems. She said he came from a respectable Muslim family and now spends a lot of time at the Mosque.
Judge Steven Evans remanded him in custody for sentencing on July 12, for Rahman to provide him with evidence that he had a job.
He said: “There has been an inexplicable delay in this case and he is of good character. He is relatively young and all but two years have passed.”
The judge went on: “I want to see good evidence of a job if I am going to consider an alternative to custody.”
