A burglar who was caught inside his victim’s home has been jailed for more than three years.

Leon Gittens, 34, of no fixed abode, was snared by officers at a house in Stockingstone Road, Luton on February 11, 2020.

At around 10.50am, Gittens broken into the address and when the occupant returned home, he noticed that his garden door has been damaged.

When checking his CCTV through a mobile phone the victim realised that the intruder was still inside the property.

The police were called and Gittens was caught inside the house.

He pleaded guilty to burglary at Luton Crown Court on Friday, August 20, 2021, and was subsequently sentenced to three years and one month in prison.

Detective Constable Jason Wheeler, from the Bedfordshire Police’s dedicated burglary team, Operation Maze, who led the investigation, said: “Gittens was caught red handed by officers, and had very little choice but to plead guilty.

“Burglary is such an intrusive crime and I am so glad we were able to prevent any further harm or intrusion on this occasion.

“We will continue to work hard to bring offenders who target people’s homes to justice.”
