The Department for Culture Media and Sport has opened up a pilot scheme allowing local councils to bid for funds to improve 5G in town centres.

The Conservative Group on Bedford Borough Council are urging the Borough to make a bid. If they are successful with a bid, the Government will invest in piloting the latest innovations in digital asset management platforms, making it easier for mobile companies to learn whether structures are suitable, helping accelerate the roll out, delivering the many benefits of 5G to people and businesses in Bedford town centre.

Deputy Group Leader, Cllr Roger Rigby commented: “We are in the digital age, almost everything we use to give us information requires data. Bedford is developing exciting new plans to reinvent itself to deliver what shoppers, residents and businesses need when they are in our town centre.

“It has the potential to open up a wealth of benefits to everyone. A successful bid would help establish the best and safest sites for 5G going forward supporting the new town centre that will emerge over the next few years.”
