Residents of Queen’s Park in Bedford are about to benefit from an Oddity Art Walk hosted by the very talented artist Caroline Wendling and resident Maurice Nicholson.
Caroline Wendling’s work explores ideas of place and belonging and draws on history to explore local myths. She will be uncovering Queen’s Park myths and much more on Sunday, October 10, during the Oddity Art Walk.
Maurice has a wealth of historical knowledge of the Queen’s Park area and specialises in mapping.
Local residents will be guided by Caroline who will lead the way to uncover stories of Queen’s Park. It will be a voyage of discovery and the group will stop to tell stories of the local area and to find the hidden mysteries of Queen’s Park.
It is a great opportunity to explore create and meet other people.
The Oddity Walk is part of Take Part Queen’s Park, a project that invites all residents in Queen’s Park to celebrate the place where they live through taking part in creative activities. The project is delivered by Bedford Creative Arts (BCA) in partnership with The Higgins Bedford and bpha Housing Association. It is funded by Paul Hamlyn Foundation, The Harpur Trust, bpha and Bedford Borough Council.
Since the project started in 2020, has run visual art workshops exploring themes of community and communication, created postcards of Queen’s Park with local school children, provided art activity packs during lockdowns, and worked intensively in small groups who have started to share their experiences of Queen’s Park such as residents of Presentation House.
Ami Aubrey, Programme Producer for Bedford Creative Arts says: “Queen’s Park is such a vibrant area with so many stories to tell. This Oddity Art Walk hopefully will encourage the community to get out and explore what is on their doorstep. They can sketch, take photos, share stories – it really is a rich tapestry to explore.”
The walk will take place this Sunday, October 10, at 1pm, starting at All Saints Church (MK40 4LQ). If you’d like to join our walk please contact us on info@bedfordcreativearts.org.uk.
Watch out for our future events at Queen’s Park on the Saturday, October 23 through to Friday 29, at Queen’s Park Community Centre. Activities will be accessible for all ages. If you live or work in Queen’s Park and want to know more contact takepart@bedfordcreativearts.org.uk
