A man who tried to give police the slip when they began following his car through Luton late at night ended up crashing into an oncoming vehicle.

The reason Sabthan Mohy-U-Uddin had been so keen to get away became apparent when officers searched his car and discovered cannabis, scales and and £300 in cash inside.

A further search was carried out at an address he was linked to and further drugs were found along with more scales, deal bags and mobile phones.

Luton Crown Court was told the the value of the cannabis recovered by the police was around £3085. In addition a small amount of cocaine found was worth between £90 and £120.

In court Mohy-U-Uddin of no fixed address appeared for sentence for simple possession of the cocaine and two counts of possessing the cannabis with intent to supply. He also admitted a charge of dangerous driving.

Recorder Howard Cohen hearing the case was told it was around 10.30pm on Monday November 19 2019 when police Officers on patrol in Hatters Way, Luton had their attention drawn to a white vehicle travelling from Chaul End Lane into Dallow Road.

At that stage they thought the car might be linked to an earlier incident and so they quickly caught up with it intending to check it out.

The court heard that Mohy-U-Uddin, 26, was in no mood to pull over and instead accelerated hitting speeds of 60mph where the limit was 30mph. He showed no regard for other road users that night and paid the price when he crashed head on into another car.

Officers dragged him from the vehicle and the found the drugs, cash and scales. An examination of mobile phones linked to the defendant showed he had been dealing cannabis in the past.

Recorder Howard was told that at the time of the offences, Mohy-U-Uddin was subject to a suspended sentence order and therefore was in breach of it.

Mohy-U-Uddin was said to have started using drugs as a way of coping with stresses in his life and developed a cannabis habit which cost him £70 a day.

As a result he got himself in debt and had resorted to drug dealing to clear what he owed.

The court heard that the defendant’s family were now helping him to put his life on the right track by finding him work and accommodation.

Recorder Howard sentenced him to 22 months imprisonment which was suspended for 18 months.

He will also have to carry out 300 hours of unpaid work and attend 20 Rehabilitation Activity Requirement days when he will work with probabtion staff to address his offending.

Mohy-U-Uddin was disqualified from driving for a year and the recorder ordered the forfeiture of all the drugs, cash and drugs paraphernalia.
