Police are appealing for witnesses after a fatal road traffic collision on the M1.

Emergency services were called just before 7.30pm on Sunday, November 28, 2021, to reports of a pedestrian walking up the slip road of the northbound carriageway at Junction 11.

The pedestrian was then involved with a collision with an HGV on the main carriageway.

Emergency services attended the scene, but the pedestrian was pronounced dead shortly afterwards at hospital.

He has been named as Yuksel Ismail, 23, of Borough Road, Burton-on-Trent.

Acting Detective Sergeant David Burstow, from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, and Hertfordshire Serious Collisions Investigation Unit (SCIU), said: “This tragedy will have a profound impact on everyone involved and our thoughts remain with the family of the young man who has lost his life.

“We are working to establish the circumstances that has led to this tragic incident and are appealing to anyone who was travelling on the M1 at that time who may have seen the man on the motorway or have dashcam footage to get in touch.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact A/DS Burstow on 101 or via Bedfordshire Police’s online reporting centre, quoting Operation Marriott.
