A man has been arrested on suspicion of fraud by false representation in relation to a house being fraudulently sold.
Officers from Bedfordshire Police’s Serious Fraud Investigation Unit (SFIU) apprehended the man, who is in his 20s, following a pre-planned dawn raid at a residential address in Bedford on Wednesday, December 15.
They found the man they were looking for hiding under a bed.
During a search of the property, investigators seized documentation, a number of digital devices, and other high-value items.
The man was taken into custody for further questioning and subsequently released under investigation.
The investigation concerns a house in Hampshire which is thought to have been fraudulently sold. It is being considered in the same operation as the fraudulent sale of a house in Luton.
Investigation Officer Dave Brecknock, from the SFIU, said: “Our new team is dedicated to tackling offenders linked to serious cases of fraud and today’s arrest is the latest development in this ongoing operation.
“Fraud has a real and personal impact on victims, and we are working hard to tackle those looking to illicitly profit from innocent members of the public.
“We’re committed to following all lines of enquiry to establish what has taken place and ensure those involved face justice.”
