A variation on a regional distribution centre for Aldi at Wixams will create 600 new jobs.
Outline planning was granted in 2015 but now changes, to what will be the 12th centre of this kind in the UK by Aldi, are being proposed.
Locals have been asked to consult via https://aldiconsultation.co.uk/wilstead/ until February 1, 2022, on the “Reserved Matters Consultation” (RMA).
The changes include:
• Moving the most significant building north by 42m, closer to the B&M Distribution Centre and further away from the residential and future employment areas to the south and east boundaries.
• An increased in the building footplate by approximately 5,300 sqm, to accommodate Aldi’s latest internal operations requirements, which have evolved since planning consent.
• Minor changes to car parking sized to meet new planning standards.
In a letter to residents a spokesman for Aldi said: “These changes are not considered to significantly alter the impact compared to the previously consented scheme.
“It is worth reiterating that this is an amended RMA, rather than a new full application, and that key issues, such as highways and the principle of development on the site were agreed when the original Outline Consent was granted in 2015.
“Aldi’s proposals focus on the reserved matters aspects and they are keen to hear the thoughts of the local community on these amended proposals, as they appreciate the sensitivity of the site and growing neighbouring community.”
