Cllr John Wheeler will attend a unique tree planting initiative created to mark Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022 which invites people from across the United Kingdom to ‘Plant a Tree for the Jubilee’ on Saturday, January 22, 2022.
The Lord Lieutenant of Bedfordshire, Helen Nellis, who is the Queen’s representative in the County, will also be in attendance and will unveil a commemorative display board at 11.00am.
The Queens Green Canopy focuses on planting sustainably, the aim of the QGC is to plant trees to create a legacy in honour of The Queen’s leadership of the Nation which will benefit future generations – our children’s children and our grandchildren’s children.
In Wootton, the Parish Council, working in partnership with the Crown Estate and the Forest of Marston Vale, are planting 70 trees (a tree for each year of Her Majesty’s reign) on land owned by the Parish Council and an adjacent field owned by the Crown Estate.
The trees, a mix including oak, wild cherry, rowan, hornbeam, field maple and birch, are being supplied by the Forest of Marston Vale through DEFRA’s ‘Trees for Climate’ campaign.
The Lord Lieutenant will also plant the first of the 70 trees. The remaining trees will be planted by members of Wootton’s community including representatives from the churches, schools, scout and guiding groups and other village clubs and organisations.
All Wootton residents are invited to come to the event, the entrance to the planting site will be through the Cemetery Gates on Lorraine Road, Wootton, Bedford, MK43 9DQ.

This is a wonderful chance for the people of Wootton to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in an environmentally friendly way.”
