Rory McAuley scores Eagle’s first goal in a two all draw with Thame on Saturday January 22.

Thame United 2 – 2 Eagles

The trip to the ASM Stadium hasn’t been a happy one for Eagles fans in recent years, with Thame emerging as 3-0 winners on the last two meetings, but on this occasion with Bedford at the top of the table, the sizeable travelling contingent were hopeful that Town’s winning run would continue.

Thame United however had other ideas as they denied the visitors advances before hitting the target themselves in the last minute of the first half, with David Pearce hitting the target.

Manager Gary Setchell’s team talk at half time didn’t have the desired effect as two minutes into the second half The Red Kites lead was doubled as Ryan Blake, got their second.

Connor Tomlinson chasing down the ball.

Thoughts of another loss were diminished slightly when Bedford’s centre back Rory McAuley headed home from a Hugh Alban-Jones cross, just three minutes later.

The visitors were now on the attack, but Thame did a good job of shutting up shop – until the 63rd minute when Conner Tomlinson scored his twentieth Eagles goal, courtesy of Dan Walker. His shot was accidently blocked by Tomlinson, before he turned and fired home from 15 yards out.

Bedford were now dominating the game, but despite multiple corners free kicks and shots the home defence held firm, with scores level at the end of play.
