A man who knocked out his former’s partner’s front tooth was jailed for 19 months on Thursday, May 12, 2022.

Peterborough man Thomas Wade, 24, let himself into her flat in Biggleswade when she was asleep.

He kicked the footboard of her bed and told her to get up.

Wade hit her to the left side of her face and then punched her in the mouth. During a struggle she bit him, Luton Crown Court heard.

The victim went to the bathroom and discovered her front right incisor had been knocked out. When she called her mother and asked her to contact the police, Wade picked up his belongings and left.

The woman went to Bedford Accident and Emergency where she was treated for the mouth injury, bruising and swelling. In his defence Wade said he acted in self defence and only punched her once.

Wade of Admiral House, Viersen Platz, Peterborough appeared for sentence having been convicted by a jury of causing actual bodily harm early on November 3, 2021.

He had six convictions for 17 offences. A week before the assault he had been given a community order and unpaid work for malicious communication in which he threatened to harm a neighbour’s dog.

In a victim personal statement the woman said she could not eat for days after the punch and now needs a bridge in her mouth to replace the tooth.

This cannot be done until November next year. She said: “It was an awful experience and so stressful. I was sick to my stomach giving evidence. I don’t want to think about future relationships.”

Defending, Charles Judge said he was a hard-working man who had always provided for his child. He said he hoped both Wade and the victim could move on.

Judge Lynn Tayton QC jailed him for 18 months for the actual bodily harm.

She resentenced him for the malicious communication saying he should serve an extra month.
