Bedford man back in prison after one week of freedom

A Bedford man was jailed for seven months on Wednesday, May 18, 2022, for breaching a sexual risk order, just a week after being released from prison.

Majid Akhtar, 34, had the order imposed on him after he was involved in a grooming investigation.

No charges were brought in that case, but in February 2020 he was jailed for 21 months for breaking the order by failing to tell the police about a relationship.

Prosecutor Martin Mulgrew told Luton Crown Court that on 24th to 25th November last year Akhtar stayed at his partner’s address in Aylesbury without informing his supervising officer.

On December 19, he made a mistake by calling his supervising officer on a new iphone that he had not told the police about.

Akhtar of Old Ford End Road, Bedford appeared for sentence after admitting two breaches of the sexual risk order.

Defending, Sebastian Cox said Akhtar had been trying to comply with the order.

He said was foolish in not returning home from the Aylesbury address. On the other occasion the phone had belonged to his sister, he said.

Jailing him, Judge Steven Evans said the 15 year long sexual risk order had been brought because it was feared he and others had been grooming young females for sexual exploitation.

He told him: “The conditions were made plain to you on many, many occasions. These breaches were deliberate.” The judge warned him: “If you breach it again the sentences will get longer.”
