Award winning Bedford children’s author and illustrator David Litchfield visited Castle Newnham School recently, to talk to pupils about his work.

Year 3 pupils are studying his book ‘Lights on Cotton Rock’ in English and are creating their own short stories based on this and his other books. The children loved his visit, they were amazed at how he got his inspiration and asked lots of questions.

David first started to draw when he was very young, creating Star Wars and Indiana Jones ‘mash up’ comics for his older brother and sister. Since then, David’s work has appeared in magazines, newspapers, books and on T-shirts.

He has also exhibited his illustrations in both solo and group shows in the U.K, Europe and America.

David said: “It was great chatting to the kids at Castle Newnham about my books. I got to run a few sessions around story ideas, drawing characters and I answered a lot of great questions. It was really nice to be able to visit their school and talk about what I do.”
