Bedford Borough Council is asking residents to donate their unused bikes for Ukrainian families in the Borough.
Bedford Borough has welcomed over 200 Ukrainian guests to since the start of the conflict in their homeland and is asking for bikes, of all sizes and in particular ladies bikes, to help them get to so they can travel to work or school and discover Bedford Borough by bike.
Dave Hodgson, Mayor of Bedford Borough said: “The support and generosity Bedford Borough residents have already shown to guests from Ukraine has been incredible and I have no doubt people will be more than happy to help out again if they can.
“If you have a bike at home, or at the back of your garage, that could do with a new home, please consider donating it. Your donated bikes will help people to explore our Borough, socialise with family and newly made friends, and stay active during the summer months.”
If you have a bike you are no longer using and it is in reasonable condition, so volunteers can easily make adjustment and pump up the tyres to bring it back to life, you can drop off at one of our two collection points:
Thursday 4 August, 10am to 4pm, Priory Marina (near Beefeater)
Barkers Lane, Bedford MK41 9DJ
or
Wednesday 24 August, 10am to 4pm, Kempston Pool Car Park
