Members of Girlguiding Bedfordshire have been taking part in an initiative project designed by leader Jane Thompson called Giving It Back. As part of this initiative girls and leaders focused on understanding the issues which surround homelessness in their communities.
The girls, with help from Jane, decided that they wanted to do something to actually give something back and so partnered with the SMART Prebend Centre in Bedford.
The Centre works to support adults over the age of 18yrs old that are homeless, providing facilities, support and guidance to relieve rough sleeping and prevent further homelessness. The girls asked the Centre which items they needed most and so began their aim to collect as many toiletries for men experiencing homelessness as they could.
Girlguiding Bedfordshire has hosted a number of large events over the summer and Girlguiding units from across Bedfordshire were asked to bring donations to these events.
The donations started rolling in and resulted in several large boxes of much needed toiletries being delivered to the SMART Prebend Centre by Girlguiding Bedfordshire’s County Programme and Events Advisor Carolyn Hare.
