A Luton paedophile had more than 60 hours of child sex abuse videos, including one of a man having intercourse with the corpse of a toddler.
Michael Scott, who denied ever seeing the images of the dead child, had an extensive collection of the worst examples of moving and still images, Luton Crown Court heard on Friday, September 23, 2022.
Prosecutor Douglas Page said on 20 August 2019 (correct) the police went to his home and seized a Google pixel phone, a USB stick and a PC Tower.
They went back later that day and recovered a Samsung phone that Scott had been using to delete images in a drop box account in an attempt to frustrate the investigation. Those images were recovered, said the prosecutor.
In all the police found 1950 Category A images, the most serious level. 1123 were still images and 827 movies.
There were 1239 at Category B – 1063 stills and 176 movies. 8,226 were at Category C – 7,932 stills and 294 movies. In addition the police found 17 images of extreme pornography – eight stills and nine movies and 80 prohibited images of children – 77 stills and three moving.
Scott, 25, of Butterworth Path, Luton pleaded guilty to three charges of making (downloading) indecent images of children, possessing extreme pornography and possessing prohibited images of children.
Mr Page said there were nearly 60 hours of running time on the videos found in two drop boxes. The youngest victims were aged three to four.
One notorious film involved a man who raped his eight or nine year old daughter and streamed it on the internet. “This is the worst type of child abuse one can expect to find.”
There is one image which depicts a man, having sex with the corpse of a toddler-aged child.
“He says he did not view it. There is no evidence he deliberately searched for the corpses of children being defiled.
“There is no way of knowing if that video was viewed.
“The crown says that does not matter. He is liable whether he viewed it or not because of the material he was looking for.”
The prosecutor went on: “The extreme pornography depicts adult women having sex with animals and the prohibited material were cartoon images of child sex abuse.”
When questioned Scott said he had started looking at legal pornography, but the images got younger and younger.
Defending, Stephen Bailey said Scott had suffered depression after the end of a relationship. He said he had been viewed as ‘odd and a loner’ who had found solace looking at legal pornography on the internet, which had led him into looking at child images.
Judge Michael Simon jailed Scott for 15 months, saying he had downloaded some of the worst examples of child sex abuse in which the lives of the victims had been “utterly ruined.”
The judge went on: “You are just 25 and have no previous convictions and have been diagnosed with mental health difficulties. You became deeply mired in such appalling and revolting material.”
He must abide by the terms of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order and register as a sex offender for 10 years. He will be deprived of the two mobile phones, the PC tower and the USB stick.
