A former Ministry of Defence policeman who sexually abused three young girls was jailed for 10 years on Friday, October 7, 2022.
Iain Alderton, 34, now from Market Rasen, committed the offences against the children, who were aged 9 and 10, when he was living in Luton.
Jailing him, Judge David Farrell KC said that as a police officer he would have been trusted by the families of the victims. The paedophile got two girls to engage in sexual activity with him in his Luton flat after buying them sweets and playing videos game with them. He showed one a pornographic film.
On three separate occasions he abused a third girl by getting her to perform a sexual act on him in Luton and in Kempston. He had offered her £800 and then £1200 to keep quiet, said prosecutor Henry James at Luton Crown Court. Mr James said Alderton was also found in possession of indecent images of children.
The images were hidden away in a file, within a file, within a file, said the prosecutor.
Alderton of Paddock Mews, Market Rasen, Lincs appeared for sentence having been convicted of two charges of attempt to cause or incite a child under 13 to engage in a sexual act, engaging in a sexual act in front of a child, three charges of causing a child to engage in a sexual act and three of making (downloading) indecent images of children.
The third victim read a personal statement to the judge in which she had Alderton had “taken away my childhood and innocence.”
She said she had “peace of mind and closure” since the guilty verdict. Defending, Alesdair King said Alderton had been of previous good character and the offences had not been “particularly planned.”
He said Alderton, who had attempted suicide, now accepted his guilt. Judge Farrell said that as a police officer with the Ministry of Defence the last thing on a mother’s mind was to think that he was a paedophile.
Referring to the first two victims he said: “You isolated the girls in your flat where you abused them for you own perverted, sexual gratification.” He said he had manipulated the third victim to ensure she was on her own with him so he could abuse her.
Alderton must register as sex offender and abide by the terms of a sexual harm prevention order for life. His laptop is to be forfeited and destroyed.
