A man who knifed his victim between the legs in broad daylight in a Bedford street on Friday, October 21, 2022, received a 15 year prison sentence.
Pernel Taylor, 33, caused the man to lose a litre of blood after stabbing him three time in the perineum with a machete.
The attack came after Taylor said he had been attacked by the victim the previous night.
He was jailed for 10 years and given a five licence extension, meaning he could be recalled to prison at any time up to 2037.
Luton Crown Court was played CCTV that showed Taylor, armed with a machete, chasing the man in Elstow Road at around 2.45pm on July 16.
He stabbed him three times in the perineum, causing him to lose a litre of blood.
The victim did not want to help the police investigation and did not make a statement. Taylor of Bridge Road, Bedford appeared for sentence having pleaded guilty to wounding with intent and possessing a knife.
He had 20 convictions for 39 offences including robbery and dealing Class A drugs. Defending, Minal Raj said Taylor had been assaulted by the victim the day before.
“Neither are strangers to the criminal system. They met while in prison. It was a preemptive strike.
“By luck and good fortune he does not appear to have received life-threatening injuries.”
Jailing him, Judge Nicholas Ainley told him: “It was a brutal stabbing, causing a consider loss of blood and could have led to permanent injury. Your only excuse is that he assaulted you the night before.”
He went on: “You represent a very serious risk of danger to the public. You stabbed someone in a way calculated to cause a serious and humiliating injury. You deliberately armed yourself with a machete. This man could have died.”
