Central Bedfordshire Council has announced its Christmas and New Year bin collection schedule.
The Council will place tags on bins to advise residents that their waste will be collected the day after their normal collection day over Christmas and New Year. All refuse, recycling and food waste collections will resume as normal on Monday 9 January 2023.
Revised refuse and recycling collections days:
· Monday 26 December will be collected on Tuesday 27 December
· Tuesday 27 December will be collected on Wednesday 28 December
· Wednesday 28 December will be collected on Thursday 29 December
· Thursday 29 December will be collected on Friday 30 December
· Friday 30 December will be collected on Saturday 31 January
· Monday 2 January will be collected on Tuesday 3 January
· Tuesday 3 January will be collected on Wednesday 4 January
· Wednesday 4 January will be collected on Thursday 5 January
· Thursday 5 January will be collected on Friday 6 January
· Friday 6 January will be collected on Saturday 7 January
Local Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs) will continue to stay open seven days a week, between 9am and 5pm, except on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day when they’re closed. On Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve, the HWRCs will be open between 9am and 1pm.
Real Christmas trees will be collected for recycling between Monday 9 and Friday 20 January 2023 inclusive. Residents simply need to place their real Christmas tree next to their recycling bin (not in any bin or bag) on the relevant recycling bin collection day. Real Christmas Trees should be no taller than six feet (183cm), with trunks no greater than three inches in diameter (8cm) and all decorations need to be removed. During this period, no other garden waste will be collected.

Councillor Ian Dalgarno, Executive Member for Community Services at Central Bedfordshire, said: “We will soon issue our Christmas bin tags to remind residents that their collection days will change over the festive period, and we ask people to make a note so we can collect their waste and recycling.
“Whilst the Christmas and New Year celebrations are undoubtedly a time to have fun, we are asking residents to continue to think about their environmental impact and to do their bit to help continue to reduce waste and increase recycling.
