A paedophile videoed himself sexually abusing a four-year-old boy and posted the films on the internet where they will remain forever.

Simon Newham, 33, also distributed indecent images of two girls that he had taken and incited a woman in Canada to film herself sexually abusing a nine-year-old girl.

Simon Newham.

Newham, previously of Wallis Drive, Leighton Buzzard was jailed on Tuesday, March 15, 2023, at Luton Crown Court for 15 years and three months.

The judge said he met the criteria of being a dangerous offender and passed a three year extended licence, making a total sentence of 18 years and three months.

Newham had pleaded guilty to ten charges: making indecent images, taking indecent photos, two charges of distributing indecent photos, three charges of sexual assault of a child under 13, causing a child to engage in sexual activity, causing sexual exploitation of a child and publishing obscene articles on websites.

Prosecutor Peter Shaw said: “This defendant has committed very serious offences. He videoed the abuse of the four-year-old boy and later distributed those images.” He had also taken images of two girls aged around eight and distributed those with others he had downloaded.

Newham, a night shift worker, had been in contact on a web-chat service with a woman in Canada and incited her to sexually assault her own daughter. That woman has since been arrested.

Mr Shaw said when the police examined his phone they found 338 Category A images of child sex abuse, the most serious level. There were 344 Category B and 385 Category C, the least serious level.

He had distributed a total of 30 Category A videos and six stills, eight Category B vidoes and six still and six Category C videos and 19 stills. One include a male raping a baby.

Newham, who had his head bowed in the dock, had written messages on fetish websites relating to the abuse of a child and fantasied the rape and murder of a child.

When questioned by a detective he said: “It makes me sound like a monster.”

In a victim personal statement the mother of one victim said the offences were “beyond comprehension.” She said the victims had been given a life sentence because the images will be on the internet for ever.

The father of another victim read his statement and looked across the court to the dock when he said: “Words cannot express the anger I have.” He went on: “Simon Newham you are one of the evils in this world and if I had my way you would never see the light of day again.”

Defending, Houzla Rawat said he had no previous convictions. She said he was not avoiding taking full responsibility for his actions. He cannot explain why having hitherto lived a normal life.”

Jailing him, Judge Michael Simon said: “The court cannot undo what has been done by Simon Newham the defendant in this case.

“All the court can do is dispense justice dispassionately. It was painful enough for those in public gallery to listen to.”

He said: “The abhorrent, appalling depraved behaviour of the defendant has caused untold harm.”

Newham must register as a sex offender and abide by terms of a sexual harm prevention order.

Detective Constable Oliver Fitton from Bedfordshire Police’s Internet Child Abuse Investigation Team said: “I am pleased that Newham will now be spending a long time behind bars; no longer posing a danger to any other children.

“Although he admitted to the indecent images in his interview, he didn’t take any responsibility for his actions, leaving us to discover the full horrific extent of the offences he had committed.

“Child sexual abuse is a most horrendous experience and goes to show that people aren’t always as they seem. There are a lot of individuals out there with a dark side and horrifying secrets.

“We want to reiterate that it is never too late to come forward and tell police if you have been the victim of sexual abuse, no matter how long ago it was. You will be listened to, you will be supported, and we will endeavour to do all we can to seek justice for you.”
