Tess Sharman has been working with four-year-old, Hamish, a Dandie Dinmont Terrier for just eight months.

He has been training at Ringcraft sessions in Wootton and Sharnbrook, run by Andrea Douse, who thought Hamish was a potential Crufts winner early on.

It turns out she’s a pretty shrewed judge of dogs because Hamish picked up a runner-up award in the Post Graduate Class at the recent Crufts Dog Show.

Tess from Bolnhurst has spent many hours grooming the ‘wee doggie’, getting him to show standard in only his third competition outing.

The Dandie Dinmont Terrier was formerly known as the ‘Mustard and Pepper Terrier’ also the ‘Gentleman of Terriers’, bred in the border regions of Scotland and England for the hunting of vermin.

It looks as if Hamish has the temperament and class to become a champion best of breed very soon – och aye!
