A 15-year-old boy was left with permanent scars and a disability after being ambushed in a Luton barbers.
The victim was in the Selbourne Road shop when an Audi pulled up outside in the late afternoon of Saturday February 5, 2022.
Amaan Khan, now 18, walked the victim to the back of the building, put him him in a headlock and attacked him with a Rambo knife in what Luton Crown Court head was a revenge attack.
He was joined by Hasan Nisar, now 22, and another unidentified male, who stabbed him with flick knives.
As the boy lay bleeding Khan’s callously returned and cut him on the cheek, leaving a permanent visible scar.
Prosecutor Matthew Kirk on Thusday. April 20, 2023, said: “They were grave and life-threatening injuries. He has permanent disfigurement and life-long impairment.”
In a victim personal statement the teenage victim said: “I am still coming to terms with what happened.”
He said he has been left with huge, embarrassing scars. He hides those on his legs, but cannot cover the one on his face.
He has constant pain in his legs and struggles to get out of bed in the morning.
“ I am waiting for a tendon transplant in is left leg and cannot walk more than 30 metres without a break.
“I am angry about what happened. It impacted me and my family. I have lost count of the number of hospital appointments. Before this I was doing well.
“Before this happened I was a typical 15-year-old who enjoyed football and going to the gym. I can’t play football now. I can never forget what happened – the scars and pain are a constant reminder,” he said.
Mr Kirk said there is permanent nerve damage to his leg which has no sensation and he has limited use of his foot. His ankle and toes will never function at the same level again.
Nisar of Farley Meadows, Luton and Khan of Connaught Road, Luton were convicted after a trial of wounding with intent and possessing knives.
Khan had one previous conviction for possessing an offence weapon, a baton, at school. He had been given a referral order for that offence in January 2022, a month before the barber shop attack.
Nisar had been sentenced to four years’ detention in October 2017 for wounding with intent.
For Khan, Robert English said he still did not accept his involvement claiming it was a case of mistaken identity. He said Khan was 17-years-old at the time.
Hugh Mullan, for Nisar, said: “He joined in when he did not need to. He was 21 at the time, but was very young and immature for his age.” He said he wants to get away from the Luton area on his release.
Judge Alan Blake said the victim had been left with a long visible scar on his face and the scarring on his left leg was “nothing short of horrendous.”
The judge said when Khan returned to cut the victim on the cheek it was “cruel and callous.”
He told the defending it was ferocious attack. “He was unarmed and utterly trapped. Both of you were armed with knives. It was a prolonged and persistent assault.”
The judge said Khan’s Rambo knife was a “fearsome weapon.”
He said Nisar was a dangerous offender and jailed for 10 years with a two year extension to his licence, making a 12 year sentence. It means he can be recalled to prison after his release within the next 12 years.
The judge sentenced Khan to seven years detention, saying he had to reduce the sentence because he was under 18 at the time of the attack.
He made a restraining order banning the two from contacting the victim directly or indirectly.
At the time of the conviction, DC Sarah Warren, from Bedfordshire Police, said: “This incredibly violent attack took place on a busy Saturday afternoon in a very public place, leaving a boy with significant injuries. I am pleased that two people have been convicted for this.
