Second teenager appears in Crown Court on murder charge

A second teenager has appeared in the crown court charged with murder of Derrick Kinyua in Luton.

The 17-year-old boy – who cannot be named for legal reasons – was arrested in Luton in May.

Derrick Kinyua, 19, was fatally stabbed at the junction of Hitchin Road and Hucklesby Way on April 14.

The emergency services attended the scene. He was taken to hospital, where he died.

Shakeel Morton, 19, of Upwell Road, Luton, was remanded in custody accused of murder.

On Tuesday, May 30, 2023, at Luton Crown Court, Judge Michael Simon joined the two cases together. He remanded the boy in custody until Thursday for a bail application.

There will be a plea hearing on June 16 and a trial date set for October 9.
