Bedford Borough Libraries are delivering a series of exciting author events for National Crime Reading Month this June. The events will take place at libraries across Bedford Borough, offering thrilling opportunities for fans of crime fiction and aspiring crime writers.
As well as three popular authors discussing their work there will also be a crime-writing workshop for aspiring crime writers to learn about the process of turning an idea into a full plot.

Councillor Sarah Gallagher, Portfolio Holder for Leisure and Culture, said: “Our libraries offer so much for Bedford Borough residents, both physically and digitally and it’s fantastic to see these in-person author events on top of this.
“This is a fantastic opportunity for fans of crime fiction and aspiring authors to take a deep dive into the captivating world of crime literature.”
Peter Laws kicks off the events with a talk at Bromham Library on Thursday, June 15, 1.30pm. Peter writes the Matt Hunter series, exploring religious faith, the paranormal, and murder. He also wrote the acclaimed non-fiction book The Frighteners, which seeks to explain (and defend) why humans have a morbid streak, and hosts three popular podcasts.
Leigh Russell, author of the internationally bestselling Geraldine Steel series has sold over a million copies worldwide of her English police procedural crime fiction. Leigh will captivate an audience at Putnoe Library on Thursday, June 22, 11am. Chair of the CWA’s Debut Dagger Award judging panel, Leigh is a Royal Literary Fellow.
The Sunday Times bestselling author, T.M. Logan, will be speaking at Kempston Library on Thursday, June 22, from 1pm. With over two million copies sold in the UK, T.M. Logan writes tense psychological thrillers in which bad things happen to regular people, and promises to be a fascinating event.
The final event brings author Alison Morgan to Bedford Central Library to host a crime-writing workshop on Thursday, June 29, from 11.15am to 1.15pm. Alison moved from psychiatric nursing to crime writing and this is a must-attend session for both fans of crime fiction and aspiring authors. Participants will have the opportunity to learn from a seasoned professional and enhance their own storytelling skills as they create a plot line for a cosy murder mystery.
Tickets for all events are available now and must be booked in advance at www.thehigginsbedford.org.uk/book_online or by calling the Box Office at 01234 718044. The Box Office is open from Tuesday to Saturday, 10am to 4pm.
Tickets for each author event are just £2 and are expected to last one hour, the workshop is £3.50 per person and is two hours.
