Bedford Borough Council has officially launched a vital road improvement initiative on the A428 in Turvey. This aims to enhance local road conditions while addressing prevalent flooding issues.
Phase One (September 18 to October 13): Starting on Monday, September 18, and lasting until Friday, October 13, phase one of the project will necessitate a comprehensive 24-hour road closure. This closure is essential for the installation of a drainage system running between the Bedford Borough Council’s border and Newton Lane.
This strategic move will effectively combat local flooding, reducing disruptions caused by adverse weather conditions and ensuring a safer and more dependable commute for all road users.
Detailed information regarding a shuttle service between Turvey, Lavendon, and Olney during this phase will be provided closer to the start date.
Phase Two (October 16 to November 3): Subsequently, phase two will commence on Monday, October 16, and conclude on Friday, November 3. During this phase, a complete road closure will be in effect from 8 pm to 6 am, stretching between the Bedford Borough Council’s boundary and Jack’s Lane. This closure is essential for comprehensive road resurfacing.
Councillor Jim Weir, the Portfolio Holder for Environment, Highways, and Transport, emphasised that these crucial improvements on the A428 will not only address local flooding concerns but also provide a much-needed boost to the region’s road infrastructure. The council is unwavering in its commitment to enhance the travel experience for residents and visitors, demonstrating their steadfast dedication to this goal.
Councillor Weir continued, “Bedford Borough Council would like to underscore that these roadworks represent a pivotal investment in our community’s future. While we acknowledge that the road closures may cause some inconvenience, we assure you that every possible effort has been made to minimise disruptions throughout the construction phase.”
Alternative transportation and traffic management: During the road closures, additional traffic management measures will be put in place to ensure a seamless traffic flow. Collaboration with Stagecoach is also underway to provide solutions for local bus users.
Request to road users: The council kindly requests that all road users plan their journeys, account for extra travel time, and adhere to the indicated diversion routes.
