Salvage work underway at airport car blaze site

Salvage work was underway at Luton Airport on Monday to remove vehicles from the Luton Airport car park that was wrecked in a huge fire.

Cranes were lifting cars from Terminal Car Park 2 following the blaze on the night of 10th October that is thought to have destroyed more than 1400 vehicles.

A man in his 30s has been arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and has been released on bail while inquiries continue.

It is understood he was arrested as a precaution and the investigation so far suggests the fire started accidentally due to a vehicle fault.

The fire is thought to have started in a diesel car before spreading rapidly.

The DART shuttle between Luton Parkway railway station and the airport was stopped because of the blaze, but has now reopened.
