Bedford Borough Council is thrilled to announce the outstanding success of the Bedford Junior Aquathlon, an exhilarating event aimed at promoting sports participation among youngsters. The Aquathlon, which took place on Sunday, October 15, saw an impressive turnout of 121 enthusiastic participants, ranging from school years 3 to 11, at Robinson Pool and Bedford Park.
This event, organised to foster a love for sports and active lifestyles among children, featured a continuous swim and run challenge tailored for different age groups. The Aquathlon not only provided an opportunity for friendly competition but also encouraged children to challenge themselves, promoting a sense of achievement and self-improvement.
Councillor Sarah Gallagher, Portfolio Holder for Leisure and Culture, expressed her delight at the success of the event. “The Bedford Junior Aquathlon continues to inspire and empower our young athletes, fostering a spirit of healthy competition and camaraderie.
“It is heartening to see 121 children, including 29 Year 6 students, take on this challenge with such enthusiasm. We are immensely proud of their dedication and determination,”
One of the key objectives of the Bedford Junior Aquathlon is to encourage participation and entry into sports for youngsters of all abilities. The event welcomed both newcomers and seasoned participants, highlighting the inclusive nature of the Aquathlon. Every child who took part in the event was given a medal, and trophies were awarded to the top three performers in each category, motivating them to aim for excellence and celebrate their achievements.
The Aquathlon, hosted at the Robinson Pool and Bedford Park, provided a platform for children to not only compete against their peers but also challenge their own limits. The event emphasised that sports are for everyone, not just elite athletes, and that giving it a try and having fun is what truly matters.
Bedford Borough Council extends its heartfelt appreciation to all the participants, their families, and the dedicated organisers and volunteers who made the Bedford Junior Aquathlon 2023 a resounding success. We look forward to continuing our efforts to promote sports and active lifestyles among the youth of our community and now have two Aquathlon events planned in 2024 for March and October.
