Police will be conducting special patrols tonight (Friday) as detectives launch a fresh appeal for information about a serious sexual assault.

Officers from Bedfordshire Police will be conducting high visibility patrols in Bedford town centre tonight as part of their investigation into Operation Earth, a serious sexual assault which happened two years ago this weekend.

On Friday 26 November 2021, a woman was in Bedford town centre when she was sexually assaulted at around 1.30am.

A CCTV image has been released of people police believe were in the area at the time, who may have information which could support the police investigation.

Officers will also be in the town centre as part of Project Firefly, an operation which aims to ensure women do not face unwanted and unacceptable behaviour in places like bars and clubs.

As part of the project, a number of premises across the county have received training on how to spot predators and tools to report and support, as part of helping people feel safe.

The patrols come on the eve of 16 days of action against gender based violence, an international campaign which is being supported with a series of activities in Bedfordshire.

Detective Inspector Colin Nelson from Bedfordshire Police, who is leading the investigation, said: “We will leave no stone unturned when it comes to pursing those responsible for this attack, having carried out a substantial number of enquiries already to trace those responsible.

“We are working to support the victim, and we are doing everything we can to ensure we get justice for her.

“We are keen to speak to the people pictured as we believe they may have some vital information which can help us with our enquiries.

“We would also like to speak to anyone who was in High Street, Harpur Street, Silver Street or Hawes Court and may have witnessed anyone acting suspiciously.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact police through beds.police.uk/ro/report or call 101, quoting Operation Earth.
