Cirencester Town 1 – 2 Biggleswade FC
Saturday, December 2 League
Biggleswade FC collected three points in the South West on Saturday as they visited promotion hopefuls Cirencester Town.
Last year’s visit was clouded in fog and this seasons visit was no different, at times being so thick you couldn’t see the ball at the other end of the pitch.
The hosts will think themselves extremely unfortunate not to have claimed at least a point, they started much the brighter and took the lead with a fantastic long range strike, the ball coming out the fog leaving Tyler in goal for FC no chance.
FC grew into the game and equalised on the half hour, a good chance for Michael Simpson led to a corner, a great delivery into the box produced a fine double save to deny Amaru Kaunda, the ball broke for George Bailey who fired into the top corner.
The second half started the same as the first with FC under a lot of pressure, the woodwork coming to their rescue twice, however, the game swung in the 65th min when the home team were reduced to ten men.
Kaunda seemingly elbowed and required treatment for what looked a nasty blow to the face, the referee duly sent off the centre back but strangely awarded a corner rather than the penalty leaving everyone rather confused.
It didn’t matter though as FC took full advantage just three minutes later, a great move in the middle involving Kaunda and Rio Martucci cut the hosts open and the through ball produced a fine finish as Bailey grabbed his second.
There was still time for Lawrie Marsh to collect his second yellow deep in injury time, Biggleswade however, saw out the game 2-1 much to the delight of the travelling fans that made the long journey down.
